I Got a Reservation at Café Forgot
In case you had forgotten the famed designer rag store, it’s back and truly couldn’t be closer to our fair pastures. Sandwiched between Beverly’s (the premier shovel and hammer store of the LES) and BODE, Café Forgot has found its permanent home at 29 Ludlow Street.
With a build out designed by Nile Greenberg and Michael Abel, the store features a rotating rack straight out of Cher’s Clueless closet and a giant wall decal by Maggie Lee. Owners Lucy Weisner and Vita Haas celebrated their flagship opening with a party this past Wednesday serving putrid glasses of white wine alongside vodka redbull spirits. Comedienne Ruby McCollister threw down the beats from her phone’s Spotify playlist while Maya Laner held down the booze table asking every guest if they knew who she was. McCollister was found hours later in her 20th street apartment with over $3,000 of stolen CF goods. The abysmal AC on the sweltering summer evening made for a club-like setting as teens swarmed to buy their charm chokers and crochet underwear.
Meetka Otto smoked cigarettes in the dressing room while Caroline Calloway attempted to paint portraits on top of the vinyl wall murals. Sam Coppel was seen doing laps around the store peddling business cards with only his instagram handle on them and I accidentally bled through my borrowed outfit.
As the clock struck 8 and throngs of people remained inside not spending and outside discussing patchwork corsets, Weisner and Haas called in the neighborhood bulldozer to clear the street so we could all make our Cervo’s reservation.
While the kids dispersed to Division St and beyond, the notably absent community of downtown 30 somethings were crowding the corner of Ave A and E 5th Street for Eli Keszler’s Mast Books opening. As a sharp pang of FOMO washed over me, I sent the bulldozer uptown giving special instruction to avoid the baby.

I’ll be on vacay for a few weeks, but if anything juicy happens in the city let me know and I’ll string together some lies about it. Also, I work at Cafe Forgot on Sundays and Mondays lol. Come say hi. Try on some corsets.
